Famous for its impressive city walls and the Stradun, the city’s grand main promenade, Dubrovnik also gained worldwide fame as a filming location for the hit series Game of Thrones. Often referred to as the Jewel of the Adriatic, and described as “Heaven on Earth” by George Bernard Shaw, this enchanting city continues to inspire poets, writers, and artists alike. Historically, Dubrovnik was known as Ragusa until 1808.

When to visit?

Pre and post-tourist season is recommended time for a visit, so any time from April to June, or September to November, if you wish to avoid the heat and the main tourist season. During these times, the weather is mild, typical Mediterranean, with rainy winters and hot, warm summers. Pre and post-season is the best time to explore the city and the region of Dubrovnik.   The hottest months are July and August, with temperatures climbing up to 35°C. Please keep in mind that the weather is the only thing that can not be controlled, so make sure you always discuss bad weather scenario option with your planner.

Legal vs symbolic wedding vs religious wedding

Decide whether you’d like to have a legal, symbolic, or religious wedding ceremony. Several factors can help guide your choice:

  • Formality: Consider whether you prefer a more formal or informal ceremony.
  • Complexity: Religious and civil weddings tend to be more complex and often involve additional paperwork, and fees.
  • Budget: Legal weddings are typically €1,500–€2,000 more expensive than symbolic ceremonies and costs can also vary depending on the day of the week or time of day.

How to reach Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is well connected by air, land, and sea. The city’s main gateway, Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), offers direct flights from many European destinations, especially between March and October. Since 2021, Dubrovnik has also been connected to the USA with direct flights from New York.

Travelers can reach Dubrovnik by land as well — either by renting a car and enjoying a scenic drive along the Adriatic coast, or by taking a bus from major Croatian cities such as Zagreb or Split.
